In June 2001, a technician from the Institute of Technology in Pasadena was listening to Bebe & Serge while tinkering around with a computer virus, just to pass the time. After only three songs, all the computers in the complex were dead, emptied of their vital substance, memories annihilated. A most improbable international spoken word artist is Whitman McGowan. Even though he has a poet’s name, no connection to Walt Whitman and the lusty celebration of life was ever intended by his parents, a Navy pilot and a founding member of the C.I.A. In the beginning of his performing career he read poems for a dollar each in The Espresso Bar in his hometown of Pasadena, California. He has collaborated on exciting shows and projects with East Bay Ray of The Dead Kennedys, Maya Angelou, Brion Gysin, Coldcut, Bob Log III, Steve Westfield, Johnny Wisdom, Reverend Beat-Man, DM Bob, Silky Smooth, Der Klang, A-Poetik, Art Mode, Sound 8, The Dead Brothers and a host of others.

American poet Whitman McGowan serves up a giant helping of sci-fi, sex and social commentary heavily laced with humor on this new spoken word cd. This counter-culture cluster of live recordings from Europe and North America features music by: Bob Log lll, The Dead Brothers, cellist Michael Kott, emerging techno artist DJ Louka (Shiva Airlines) and A-Poetic. Caught in the Act includes a new interstellar version of McGowan's signature piece "White Folks Was Wild Once,Too".
